Re: Playing Maia

Does our colonist count increase over time? Not until we get the Cryo-defrostation Microwave object to warm up more colonists :) Is there/will there soon be a way to rotate objects when you place them? There is; hold down the LMB when placing an object and move the mouse around to rotate it freely,...

Re: Milestone 0.38 Progress

I doubt someone would waste their time doing that when there are games with much better graphics, game engines and vantage points to do that with, ie Skyrim. I wonder what the end-game scenario for Maia is? To my mind the colony you make throughout the gameplay is simply an exploration and research ...

Re: Milestone 0.38 Progress

Well I finally got my alpha key, and grabbed the game right away via Steam! Really impressive work Simon, it's already got such a great grungy and original feel to it, even though it obviously takes inspiration from a lot of places. I'm already really impressed with the characters, they look and mov...

Re: Commander model

Loving it! Will he just be a story narrator/objective giver? Or an actual character for your colony?

If there will a position of a leader within each colony it'd be great if there were a suitably noticeable, yet subtle, look to identify them.

Re: Sci-fi BOOKS you have to read.

Flowers for Algernon is an all time classic, and not a huge read. I've just finished reading the second Kovacs novel by Richard Morgan, forgotten the name already. The first one is Altered Carbon. Think Ghost-in-the-Shell and you're on the right track to the tone of his cyberpunk universe. It's abou...

Re: Sci-fi BOOKS you have to read.

If you're getting into Niven then for sure give Legacy of Heorot a crack. As I said way back in this thread, the BEST "colonists vs an unfamiliar world" sci-fi story I've ever encountered. Though Niven and Pournelle really like to spend a lot of time working on their characters, sometimes to the det...

Re: Fossils.

I can only assume we'll unearth a Monolith at some point.

Then one of the discoverers starts acting weird....

Oh man, so many varying sci-fi film tropes to build off of!

Please tell me dogs will be able to pick up an run off with the following items, at the worst possible times: Your last flare/glowstick An explosive mining charge about to go off (See the Australian ballad "The Loaded Dog") A nasty xenos sample that you want to contain immediately Radioactive material
