Re: GUI

I haven't played alpha yet, but from that screenshot I REALLY like the direction the UI has.

The perfect blend of boxy-green-monitor-text and smooth videogame interface.

Re: Livestock Containment

I like the idea of chickens popping up onto ventillation ducts for the warm air, or onto desks. And colonists shooing them or trying to scare them down, of course! I also LOVE the look of the pens for holding xenos. It wouldn't be a great alien game if you couldn't finally trap the best and have it ...

Re: Heat Haze (warning 6mb gif!)

Huh, looks like it should drop off much more quickly, it looks a bit much like smoke at the moment IMO.

Re: General Suggestions and Questions

^ That'd be awesome! Especially if it became more muffled/distant when the player was further away from a colony room. A bit of atmosphere for "you're there" You know what would be a great "resource"? Computing power. If we're going with a 70s sort of style, then it'd be shared computing with many I...

Re: Medical

I think just a heartbeat monitor would look good, as per sci fi "remote squad member tracking" procedure. It would increase when scared, fighting, running, and shudder and suffer in image quality when they're under physical assault. The medbay looks good! Simon in regards to children, why not have a...

Re: Super capacitor energy storage WIP

^ Hah, that's a really cool idea. And it always helps sci-fi to take real life, lesser known or non-cliched concepts like that and use them. So if current flywheels are that good, imagine them in the interstellar future, near frictionless bearings! And they'd look damned cool, as well as being dange...

Re: Maia's firearms

My 2 cents is that they are colonists not soldiers. It's have to be a pretty badly planned colony ship to not include any security/defensive-minded individuals for whatever they will encounter on the planet. I'm just not a fan of the look of "old, real world" weapons in a game where everything else...

Re: Super capacitor energy storage WIP

They look great! I'd add on some cables, plug ports and grilles on them to make em look a little more interesting/techy.

Re: Maia's firearms

Space alien or not. A burst of 7.62x51 is nothing you just shrug off. It works. You also don't need an engineering degree to maintain those weapons. In fact, they've been known to be used by... soldiers. If SciFi weapons are better depends on many factors. If you look at it from a pure game balance...

Re: Any specific feature you want in the first alpha?

It'd be nice to have the very basic survival system. Power, water, atmospheric containment and food production! Mmm, delicious algae vats!
