burning air scrubber and zombie repair bots

Post by theodin1966 » Sun Nov 15, 2015 6:41 am

Alpha build number: 0.51 (screen says 0.50 but files say 0.51)

Operating System: win 7 32bit (I have a new computer but as long as I continue using Windows I use legacy software- later I'll be 64 bit Linux)

Bug severity: Other (the computer starts to stutter- stop and go - is that other or unexpected?)

Complete steps to replicate bug:
The air scrubber in the living space burned, not affecting anything else since I keep everything at a safe distance from scrubbers
It burned completely to black and stopped burning, all the while maintaining excellent rating
A colonist and 2 repair bots came to fix it. The repair bots were lined up single file behind the colonist.
The colonist repaired the scrubber and left. The repair bots remained frozen in their spots.
Saving and reloading accomplished nothing so I recycled the repair bots.
A colonist came and turned them into building kits.
Then the game was in full stutter mode or whatever you call it (if you tell me the correct terminology I will use it!)
f5-f9 accomplished nothing even after reboot- time to start another game!

Console output:

Maia Config settings: custom with only change from default being set earthquakes to low (why would people travel to another star and then build a cave base in a geologically unstable mountain? Something about constant earthquakes just irritates me)

I experimented with setting graphics to low before with other bugs and it didn't seem to have any connection to any of them

Other notes: I'm not a programmer but I think your task queues are rudimentary and cause most of the current problems. The herding behavior of the repair bots for example. There should be a dispatcher that sends repair bots, colonists and IMPs to different locations. As it stands the things in the game just run around like mad headless chickens. You were planning to make a dispatcher? And in any event there must be hard caps on the number of open tasks for various reasons. Every other game of this type has that. For example you can call down a large number of capsules, maybe 20, and then after that every press of L freezes the game. Permanently if you save and reload.
In the scrubber situation the file or whatever with the tasks becomes corrupt and then the computer goes into loops with some module that can't work itself out. That points to another deficiency, you haven't made a module to repair corrupted/failed things so the game can recover and continue seamlessly. It doesn't matter what kind of godawful crap is going on inside the program as long as the user never sees it. You definitely need one of those thingies too. What is the technical name for that? Autowiper? Poop-o-matic?
Bear in mind I love this game and have already spent more than 10 hours playing it.
