I've never seen the "Land New Colonists" icon

After a significant break, I decided to play Maia a bit more this week.

I've always struggled with the "game", but put that down to my ineptitude and the alpha state of the game.
However, when my base failed to get going (again) - I went to the fount of all knowledge (Youtube) in search of answers, hints and tips.

One thing I found, both in Simon's replies to someone else on the forums and Marc Tookey's videos was a "Land New Colonists" button that is supposed to appear about 10 minutes into the game. On Marc's video's it appears to include a countdown for the next dropship. I've never seen that button. I've installed, deleted and reinstalled both the 0.48 client from Steam (I hate Steam) and the member's download area. I've played previous clients (though couldn't now tell you which versions).

As I say, I've deleted the Steam client (and folder). I've deleted the (separate) .\maiaalpha\ folder I used when I install the client from the members area. I've deleted the .\maia\ folder in My Documents where the configuration XML lives. Is it possible there's another configuration file left over somewhere from a previous client version that's somehow giving me an older version of the UI ? (I also don't see the quicksave/quickload buttons either - but I've put that down to Marc's video using a custom build provided directly by Simon).

Is there something obvious I'm missing?

I did however discover through random button mashing that "l" (L) launches a landing pod. My base still ends up stalling, but that's a gameplay/user-error issue rather than a technical "why is my UI broke?" issue.

Edit: Oh hell... It appears the 0.48 build available via the members download area is different than the 0.48 build available via Steam. (I noticed when I couldn't add "Building Materials" or "Ration Packs"). Side note... That gives the impression this website is being neglected as the primary point of contact for the game.

Edit2: Is it possible to find out the build details anywhere? (ie. 0.48.1.28776 or something equally specific - rather than what appears to be the wholly inadequate 0.48). Right now, I can't tell you which version of the game I'm running.

We've had that button disappear for some people on some non standard resolutions. Try changing the resolution and see if it helps?

Edit: Oh hell... It appears the 0.48 build available via the members download area is different than the 0.48 build available via Steam. (I noticed when I couldn't add "Building Materials" or "Ration Packs"). Side note... That gives the impression this website is being neglected as the primary point of contact for the game.

The builds are usually the same, due to the way we can rapidly patch the builds on Steam I often roll out tiny feature changes to see how people react to them there. (I think Tookey was trying one of our internal builds as well.) Once the fixes are confirmed I upload to the members area and swap them out.

Hmm.. resolution.
To provide a bit of relevant info.... I'm running at 1920x1200 fullscreen, 4xMSAA with text features switched off. I'd like to think that 16:10 aspect ratio is a "standard resolution", but maybe not. Plus I also run two monitors side by side, so my overall desktop might be considered to be 3840x1200 even if the game is in fullscreen using half of that.

With your suggestion, I just tried 1680x1050 windowed for about 25 minutes. It's day 22, I've got a living room, workshop and storage room.... still no drop-pod button.

Once the fixes are confirmed I upload to the members area and swap them out.

All I can say is that on the day I posted originally that wasn't the case.

Plus if you want feedback on stuff and the game has "Alpha 0.48" in corner of the game screen - that's all we can tell you about what version we're running.
I've mentioned it in another post - but perhaps include the build number in the version information. 0.48.1.21076 or something. It would make bug reporting more precise and allow those of us who download the client from the website rather than using Steam to know that our 0.48 version is or isn't the same 0.48 version running on steam.
Personally, so far I've had gameplay that's included and not included ration packs and building materials, atmosphere warnings for "base" and more recently "specific room". These were clearly all different builds, but all 0.48.

Not knowingly. Though I don't know what you mean or where I could check to tell you.
I suppose you should take that as a "no".

I read a post or two recently on the steam forums that point to other people getting this same problem too (although in fairness, a while ago).

It's still happening to me on the current build (I just fired up the Steam version to check).

How low level is the console? Is it possible to enter a console command to get additional information? Or to perhaps manually cause the game to redrawn the buttons?
I'm not 100% sure, but I think I saw couple of button top right on other people's screenshots/videos for save and load? If so, they are missing from my game too?

I'm a programmer, but not a games programmer. I'm wondering if the game is calculating the position based on the right hand edge of the screen, i.e. the screen dimensions and perhaps picking up the wrong screen size somewhere along the way? (the reason I ask is what I mentioned before about running dual monitors at 1920x1200 + 1920x1200 -- I'm wondering if the game is somehow picking up the screen width as 3840 and drawing the buttons somewhere far to the right of my game window?). Which was why I was wondering about the console commands, i.e. if there were some command like Console: window.writeln (maia.displaywindow.width) in whatever language/structure is appropriate to Maia?

Edit: One other quick thought: The "Alpha 0.49" is displayed top right and I can see it. That must also be displayed relative to the right hand edge of the screen? If it were one of my programs, I'd be taking a quick look to see if the code for that differs from the code that controls the placement of the button icons I've mentioned. But hell, my language is COBOL, so what do I know?
