OKAY, I am back at my work computer and gave it another spin. I put the resolution down to 800x600, windowed. This caused the intro screen to be weird (see screenshot below), but the game looked normal. At least, it's normal that the imps just stand there and most of the 'buildings' seem to be outlines rather than actual buidings which never get built, right?

Anyway, even at 800x600 the game feels sluggish and takes over my whole computer (switching workspaces becomes painful, fans start going). FPS jumps around all over the place, ranging from 5 to around 50.

Below is the output of nvidia-smi and the pertinent top lines, while looking at the initial globe menu:

Excellent thanks! Can you post the terminal output. There seems to be a bug report in the first few lines. (something about a GL context?)

Might be that your drivers do not support OpenGl 4. 9500 is very long in the tooth, so I'm a bit concerned a feature I'm using isn't working.

Ok looks like the card doesn't support some of the features I am using. That's rather odd, I'd of assumed the drivers would have just run them in software to stay compliant.

Geforce 9 series only supports OpenGL 3.3 it seems but still, there is a much newer driver (310.44) available for Linux for your card so you might want to check that one out as well.

A little question: If Maia really needs OpenGL 4 how are you going to make this work on OSX? Because they are stuck with 3.2. https://developer.apple.com/graphicsima ... abilities/
Apple has been years behind in implementing OpenGL since I started caring and probably before that.

Guh they are still dragging their feet eh? Generally speaking I'm not using any features that actually require 4.1. So hopefully wont have rewrite too many shaders.

I'm sure you could load many as extensions anyways. And yeah, unfortunately Mac has been stuck and will be stuck at 3.2 for years to come ;)

But I think their extension support is quite good, so you could probably get some features there if you use any. But yeah, just be sure to not use the shader version > #version 150
