Maia Alpha Milestone progress 0.01

These are the Alpha targets I'm setting myself for the end of August. Hopefully this will get me to the stage of having something I'm happy to make videos of and will be the basis for what I will give out with the preorders. This list is a distillation of my game design docs, broken down into something a bit more readable.

Blue = To do (but may be dropped for this milestone)
Red = To do
Yellow = In progress
Green = Done
White = Polished/Final

Low level/Engine:
  • Engine Framework
    Basic rendering core
    Lighting system

    Fluid Sim System
    Fluid Interaction
    Water Rendering
    Lava Rendering

    Character blended animation System
    World generation, interior and exterior

    Basic GUI Object code

    Sound/music loading and playback.
    Complex sound mixing.
Game
  • Placing default room type
    Airlocks
    Cellular atmosphere(Wont have any effect on Alpha)

    Marking digging area
    Imp bots dig out area
    Imp bots collect and deposit materials in storage
    Imp bots path find around each other, avoiding collusion.

    Place furniture to be built.
    Several types of object to be built including power sources, water collectors, food and defenses.
    Power generation levels effects lights output

    A single colonist model in game, with the minimum of a walking animation
    Core AI system (will be effectively dormant in the alpha)
    Colonists build placed items

    Foliage grows and reproduces

    Dogs walking around the colony.

    Visual design for "Magpie" Alien, that steals power cores and other shiny things from your colony.
    Model for Magpie
    Visual design for "Growler" Alien, that hunts Magpies and sometimes IMP bots.
    Model for Growler

    Gui Buttons
    3d cursor
There's some stuff that's currently in progress that I'm going to remove and put on the back boiler for this Alpha. So don't be upset if a feature you like is missing, it will be back. :)

Awesome I love development pages like this! looks like a good list of core mechanics :) I like the Magpie and Growler, I want to breed and train Growlers now :)

Marvellous, well I'll start chanting my bank details and do some anthropomancy in DayZ to divine the exact date I might get my hands on the alpha. :D

Once you've got the AI sorted for this can you please inject it into the conciousness that is know as The Australian Government, they could do with a little AI that stops them avoiding "collusion" and potentially collision ;-)

I'm afraid our research shows that what you ask is impossible:| There are simply not enough resources, even if linked together in a hive mind fashion, to let the A.I. perform even the simplest of tasks:/ Unfortunately the lack of braincells is an obstacle we have not been able to overcome yet, and is symptomatic of government organisms.
