Maia Rover prototype

I'm prototyping the Maia rover based on my initial thumbnail and reference. (http://twitpic.com/avas7u)

Starting to shape up!

Headlights and a bumper maybe? But other than that it looks nice, like a mix between Land Rower classical moon mission design.
But as a physics student I must say the "windshield" would be a major structural concern for a pressurized vehicle, this would be under extreme stress and might easily shatter on impact.
Fewer and smaller windows that could have some kind of emergency shielding and otherwise electronic guidance like ( cameras etc.) would be the idea that's mire in line with the kind of ruggedness that still deploys 100 year old MGs.
Take a look at those windows: http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/c ... hanced.jpg

Yeah. I'm going to add some lights and tow attachments on the front.

The plan is to have the thing covered in stuff like a jeep exploring the desert or a military vehicle.

As for the windshield. Can I wave that one off with Scifi? :P

Edit: Also its not strictly pressurised. There is an atmosphere outside. Its just not breathable.

You can, though you could compromise by vertically splitting the screen in 2.
Or by adding a grill-like construction over the main screen, or perhaps some foldable 'blast doors' (I'm unsure how to call those in English).

Will it get somekind of floodlight like those on night-safari jeeps? Perhaps when things get messy in the dark it could highlight the closest hostile entity...

Yeah I was just looking at ones I'd like to add. It's going to have all sorts of gubbins. :D

Started to reign in the design a bit:

Showing the colonist scale really helps bring it to life. The wing mirrors seem ridiculous in an awesome way, I can just imagine the truck trying to parallel park on some strange planet.

Now we can see the scale I wonder how the colonist can get in ^^

But beside that pesky detail, it does look awesome : )
